Internet firms to be questioned about unsuitable material

Internet service providers and mobile phone operators are due to appear before the Oireachtas Communications Committee today to answer questions about concerns relating to their products.

The companies are expected to be questioned in particular about what measures they are taking to prevent children from accessing unsuitable material via the internet or mobile phones.

Speaking ahead of the meeting, committee chairman Noel O'Flynn said he wanted to hear a timeframe for the introduction of technology to prevent the downloading of pornography via mobile phones.
