FF TDs call for extension of community employment scheme

A group of Fianna Fáil TDs is to meet the Minister for Finance Brian Cowen next Tuesday to push for changes in the eligibility rules for community employment schemes.

The group will tell the minister that people who reach 55 years of age should be allowed to continue on community employment schemes for a further three years.

Fianna Fáil TD for Dublin North-West Pat Carey said the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Micheál Martin is backing the change.

Deputy Carey said that the delegation will put forward the financial and social benefits of the scheme to Minister Brian Cowen.
