Obesity rates double among Irish schoolgoers

The number of obese Irish schoolchildren has doubled in the past decade.

A study by Dublin Institute of Technology found 6% of 12-year-olds are overweight, compared to 2% 10 years ago.

More girls than boys have been found to be obese.

The study shows that serious health risks are increasing as a result, including the rise in diabetes among children.
