SIPTU send note of caution to Aer Lingus

SIPTU has urged Aer Lingus to adhere to the industrial relations process during its restructuring talks.

The comments come in the wake of a highly successful response to the airline's severance deal which will see 1,325 workers leave.

Staff over-subscribed by some 300 to avail of the generous package of nine weeks pay per year of service.

Despite that, the semi-state is being warned that industrial action is a real possibility if it strays from the beaten path.

SIPTU's National Industrial Secretary, Michael Halpenny, said that the Government also has a vital role to play in meeting its commitments to engage with the unions and the workforce on the future of the company.
