Labour calls for action on mental health
The Labour Party’s spokesperson on health Liz McManus has today, World Mental Health Day, asked the Government to make a real commitment to those suffering from mental illness in Ireland.
This year is the 12th year of the global education campaign and the focus of the day is on the relationship between physical and mental health.
Ms McManus pointed out that one in nine Irish people suffer from mental illness.
She said: “I think it’s vital that the Government commit to the mental heath services, provide a new strategy and also additional funding.”
