The Oireachtas Communications Committee has announced its intention to investigate overcharging allegations against eircom next month.

The committee said the investigation would focus on charges for equipment and services as well as difficulties concerning the transparency of bills.

Chairman Deputy Noel O'Flynn said: "I think it's important that a provider of a service would make sure that bills are itemised and equipment is listed if there are charges for equipment. It's important that eircom explain to the committee what has been happening with their billing."
