New Dublin Airport Authority formally replaces Aer Rianta

The new Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) is beginning its first day of business today after formally replacing Aer Rianta at midnight last night.

The authority was established as part of the Government's controversial plan to break up Aer Rianta and establish Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports as independent, competing entities.

The DAA will remain in charge of Cork and Shannon airports temporarily until new boards are in place to run those two facilities.

These boards are not expected to be ready to take charge of the airports until next May at the earliest.
