North West Radio has announced it is not proceeding with its Supreme Court appeal to the withdrawal of its broadcasting licence by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, and it will cease broadcasting on October 1.

The station chief executive, Paul Claffey, said that the board of the station had regrettably concluded that, bearing in mind comprehensive legal advice and the associated costs of mounting a Supreme Court action, it had little option but to withdraw the appeal.
