Mater Hospital CEO calls for extra beds

Dublin's Mater Hospital needs at least 100 extra beds, according to Chief Executive Martin Cowley.

Dublin's Mater Hospital needs at least 100 extra beds, according to Chief Executive Martin Cowley.

Mr Cowley said the hospital has insufficient capacity due to an occupancy level of 97%.

International best practice recommends 85%.

It also has a waiting list of over 4000.
