Irish haemophiliacs have been told that they are not at risk of contracting the human form of mad cows disease from blood products here.

The news follows a warning from the British Ministry of Health which stated that thousands of its patients may have been exposed to the brain wasting disease through blood plasma products

The Irish Blood Transfusion Board has sent letters to haemophiliac sufferers explaining the situation.
