FF councillor to nominate Dana for president
A Fianna Fáil County Councillor in Kildare has announced his intention to propose former MEP Rosemary Dana Scallon for a presidential nomination at the council's next meeting on Monday.
Liam Doyle said he was proposing the nomination in order to ensure that there is a presidential election on October 22 and that Mary McAleese is not returned to Aras an Uachtarain unopposed.
Nine county councils have already rejected Ms Scallon's requests for a nomination.
She needs the backing of four councils or 20 members of the Oireachtas to get her name on the ballot paper.
