Transport Minister Seamus Brennan has turned the sod on a new €17m bypass road being constructed around Loughrea, Co Galway.

Mr Brennan said the 3.75km stretch of single carriageway road would alleviate a major traffic bottleneck on the Dublin to Galway route and would remove more than 10,000 vehicles from Loughrea every day.

Speaking at this morning’s ceremony, he also said that proposals for the completion of the Dublin to Galway motorway should be through the planning stages by the end of this year.
