14 quarry workers killed in accidents in last five years
The National Safety Council is to launch an awareness campaign for quarry workers to coincide with Quarry Safety Week, which takes place this week.
The council has published a booklet to inform workers about safety. It also said inspectors would be visiting quarries throughout the country this week to ensure they were meeting safety standards.
The Safety Council said 14 people had died while working on Irish quarries in the past five years, an increase of 10 on the figures for the previous five years.
