The Food Safety Promotion Board, Safefood, has welcomed the release of a controversial new film highlighting the dangers of fast food and an unhealthy diet.

The Food Safety Promotion Board, Safefood, has welcomed the release of a controversial new film highlighting the dangers of fast food and an unhealthy diet.

Film-maker Morgan Spurlock spent 30 days living exclusively on items from the McDonald’s menu in the United States.

The experiment forms the basis of his film, Super Size Me, which opens in Irish cinemas today.

Safefood said the movie highlighted serious issues facing Irish society, but McDonald’s, which has 69 outlets in Ireland, has described it as “sensationalist”.
