FG criticises Govt over tribunal costs

Fine Gael has criticised the Government’s failure to tackle the high cost of tribunals of inquiry in Ireland.

Reports this morning said the Fianna Fáil-Progressive Democrats coalition had set a series of deadlines for the introduction of new fees for lawyers working at the various tribunals.

The move is part of the Government’s efforts to reduce the cost these tribunals, but Fine Gael TD Jim O’Keefe said it would have no effect in the short to medium-term.

“The existing tribunal fees will continue into the foreseeable future and any changes, insofar as they will occur, are well down the line,” he said.
