Every year, about 250 people in Ireland are diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS).

An open day is taking place in University College Dublin today, aimed at those with MS and their carers.

Allen O'Connor of MS Ireland said that many people can have MS without knowing it, but with early diagnosis and treatment, its advance can be halted.

"That will stabilise their MS at the juncture it's at at this moment, so that they can stay there until such time that a cure does come on-stream, and it will come," he said.
