Martin urges MDU to reverse decision on Irish doctors
Health Minister Micheál Martin has called on the British Medical Defence Union to reverse its decision to withdraw cover from a number of doctors facing compensation claims in Ireland.
Reports this morning said the firm had withdrawn cover from up to 10 Irish consultants.
The consultants have paid premiums to the MDU and Mr Martin has accused the company of abandoning its responsibilities.
The MDU and the Department of Health in Ireland have been in dispute for some time over liability for compensation claims relating to past actions by Irish doctors.
