The Gardaí have reportedly blamed Ireland’s EU presidency and the visit of US President George W Bush for a significant reduction in the number of speeding offenders being apprehended.

Reports this morning said unpublished garda figures had shown that the number of people caught speeding in the first half of this year was 21% lower than in the same period last year.
