Cabin cruiser discovers man‘s body in Lough Ree

The body of a man has been taken from Lough Ree.

A passing cruiser noticed an object in the water and alerted search teams, who have been trying to find the body of a Swiss tourist.

71-year-old Walter Borner has been missing since last weekend.

The body of his wife Ruth was taken from the water on Monday.

The remains recovered from the lake today are being taken to Mullingar general hospital for a post mortem examination and positive identification.
