Police officers in Derry came under attack with petrol bombs during overnight clashes between rival gangs in the Irish Street area of Derry.

Up to 100 people were involved in the disturbances, which began at around 11pm.

Two rival gangs attempted to block the road before throwing stones, bottles and bricks at each other.

Two petrol bombs were also thrown at a PSNI vehicle called to the scene.

Nobody was injured in the clashes, which ended after community representatives intervened.
