Irishman honoured for British army service
An Irishman killed while fighting with the British army in Iraq was posthumously honoured by the British authorities last night.
28-year-old Lance Corporal Ian Malone, from Ballyfermot in Dublin, was shot dead by an Iraqi sniper in the city of Basra on April 6 last year.
The British Ambassador to Ireland, Stewart Eldon, presented Mr Malone’s campaign medals from Kosovo and Iraq to the his mother at a special ceremony in Dublin last night.
