Loss-making SDS is to be axed, putting 270 people out of a job.

The company is seeking voluntary redundancies and early retirement.

Assistant General Secretary of ICTU, Peter Bunting has said Dermot Ahern is aware of the union's position.

“We had meetings today between myself, the General Secretary and the Deputy General Secretary of the CWU and we had quite a robust exchange.

"We have a few other avenues of exploration which we intend, unlike An Post management, to explore through the industrial relations process and procedures with the State.”
