Hoax bomb alert in Balbriggan

The centre of Balbriggan in North Dublin was sealed off for several hours this afternoon following a hoax bomb alert.

The alarm was raised after a suspicious device was discovered in the Church St area of the town.

The Army bomb disposal team was called to the scene and carried out a detailed examination of the device, which they later described it as an elaborate hoax.
