The Government, in its mid-term review of promises made in the Programme for Government, has claimed that it is building on its promises to alleviate the tax burden of those earning lower wages.

Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats say they have taken 670,000 workers out of the tax net, compared to 380,000 in 1997.
