Newlywed quizzed over husband's death
A woman was questioned tonight about the death of her husband of just four weeks.
Patrick Gallagher, 49, was discovered at his home in the Galliagh area of Derry. He had a head wound.
Police said they were treating the death as suspicious.
His wife Ellen, aged 42, was later detained. She is a mother of four children from a previous marriage. Her first husband died five years ago.
Mr Gallagher moved to Derry from Co Donegal two years ago and married last month.
Neighbours at the couple’s home Elaghmore Park said they were devastated.
Father Shane Bradley, of St Joseph’s Parish, Galliagh, where the couple married said: “Death is always a shock but for a man just married, looking forward to a new life and to be found dead on the floor like that, is even more of a shock.
“They were even planning a wee holiday next week,” he added.
It is believed officers who were called to the house last night were told the man had fallen and hit his head.
Father Bradley added: “I met him a short time before he was married and he was a man very much in love with his wife to be. He was a straightforward, down-to-earth sort of person who had his heart set on getting married.”
