FG blames poor management for closure of SDS

Fine Gael TD Simon Coveney has blamed poor management for An Post’s decision to close its loss-making SDS parcel-delivery service.

Mr Coveney said he accepted the need for cost-cutting at An Post, but said customers and staff would suffer because of the SDS closure, which he described as a mistake.

“I have a responsibility to raise the question as to why An Post cannot provide an SDS service and make a profit doing it when a number of other private companies are providing a fast-post service and making good profits,” he said.

“The SDS service has been making huge losses and you have to question management as to why that is and why they can’t make it work.”
