An Post set to close SDS subsidary
An Post is set to close its SDS parcel delivery service in a move that could threaten up to 800 jobs.
Reports today said the board of An Post was believed to have approved the closure at a meeting yesterday.
SDS has 800 permanent and contract employees and, according to this morning’s reports, the Communications Workers Union fears most if not all of these will be laid off if the delivery service is wound down.
The SDS has been losing money for some years and the decision to scrap the service is part of ongoing moves to restructure An Post and bring it back to profitability.
