Four gardaí were hospitalised early this morning following two separate incidents in the Shankill and Summerhill areas of Dublin.

Four gardaí were hospitalised early this morning following two separate incidents in the Shankill and Summerhill areas of Dublin.

The first incident happened at Shankill Garda Station at around 1am when a man entered the station and assaulted the sergeant on duty, biting him and knocking him unconscious.

A short time later, three gardaí investigating reports of a robbery at a Chinese takeaway in Summerhill had mace sprayed in their faces.

Meanwhile, a woman entered Blackrock Garda Station in Dublin this morning and threatened the officers on duty with a knife, but nobody was hurt.
