Ahern briefs MEPs on Ireland’s EU presidency

The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, has given a speech to the European Parliament on Ireland’s presidency of the EU.

Mr Ahern told the newly-elected MEPs that Ireland oversaw a number of major achievements during the six-month presidency, including the successful negotiations on the proposed EU constitution and the enlargement of the union to 25 member states.
