Fine Gael deputy leader Richard Bruton has questioned the Taoiseach’s motives for nominating Finance Minister Charlie McCreevy as Ireland’s next EU Commissioner.

Mr Bruton congratulated Mr McCreevy on his acceptance of the post last night, but said he couldn’t understand why Bertie Ahern had nominated a man who had insisted that he did not want the job.
