MEP calls for new Commissioner for Fishing

Fianna Fáil MEP Sean O' Neachtain has called for the appointment of an EU Commissioner with sole responsibility for the fishing industry.

The current Commissioner, Franz Fischler, is responsible for the implementation of both agricultural and fishery policies.

Sean O' Neachtain says the European fishing industry needs the sole attention of one Commissioner.

He believes that this is important for communities that depend on the industry, and feel that they have been let down by the Common Fisheries Policy.
