Time for action on waste prevention - Cullen

The Government is warning that the country is still generating waste at an unsustainable rate.

The Environmental Protection Agency says there was a 4.5% drop in the amount of rubbish going to landfill in 2002.

But the rate of domestic and household waste is still rising faster than our level of economic growth.

Addressing an inaugural meeting of the National Waste Prevention Committee, Environment Minister Martin Cullen said recycling must become the norm.
