CIE unions and management are due to resume talks at the Labour Relations Commission today in an effort to avert a series of strikes due to start next week.

The National Bus and Railworkers Union has announced plans to shut down Iarnród Éireann, Bus Éireann and Dublin Bus services next Tuesday in protest at the Government’s ongoing issuing of licences to private operators in Dublin.

The union is also planning to escalate the action during August and September.

Today’s talks are part of long-running negotiations about the Government’s plan to break CIE into three competing entities and privatise 25% of Dublin Bus services.
