Cragganowen crannóg destroyed in overnight fire

Part of the world-famous Cragganowen heritage site in Co Clare has been destroyed in an overnight fire.

Part of the world-famous Cragganowen heritage site in Co Clare has been destroyed in an overnight fire.

Cragganowen is a reconstruction of an early medieval crannóg built on a man-made island near the village of Quin.

The fire brigade was called to the site at around 9pm last night.

Two dwellings in the crannóg are believed to have been destroyed in the fire, the cause of which is still unknown.
