Work begins on demolition of Ballymun towers
The demolition of the tower blocks of flats in the north Dublin suburb of Ballymun begins today.
Work on taking down the Pearse Tower, the first of seven blocks, will begin at midday.
They will be dismantled in small pieces, as dynamite cannot be used due to safety concerns.
The former residents of the 15-storey tower have been re-housed in new homes, with gardens, in the area.
The regeneration of Ballymun also includes some private development, which is attracting many first-time buyers due to the Section 23 tax breaks.
