The Fianna Fáil national executive has voted to suspend Wexford Councillor Lorcan Allen from the party for 12 months.

The disciplinary action against Mr Allen follows his admission that he forged a letter from the Taoiseach endorsing his candidacy in the recent local elections and sent the letter to voters in Wexford.

The party executive also voted to expel Mr Allen from the executive itself and to adopt new protocols governing the behaviour of candidates during election campaigns.
