NDA welcomes psychiatric service proposals

The National Disability Authority today welcomed the Irish College of Psychiatrists' proposals on plans for a service model to develop of psychiatric services for people with intellectual disability.

Commenting on the report, the Chairwoman of the NDA, Angela Kerins, stated: “The National Disability Authority commissioned a seminal report in 2003 in this area which highlighted inequities in access to services, significant under-provision of services leading to crisis responses.

“Since that report the Expert Group on Mental Health Services has been set up in the Department of Health and Children and the Department of Health and Children strategic review of disability services.

"Both the NDA’s and the Irish College of Psychiatrists reports can feed into those deliberations at a pivotal time”
