Family and friends say goodbye at Jamie's funeral
Friends and family of a 13-year-old girl found dead in Cavan gathered today for an emotional funeral service.
Jamie Farrelly Maughan’s body was discovered on Friday in the back garden of a house at Harmony Heights, half a mile away from the Ard na Greine estate where she lived.
During the service at Cavan Cathedral, Father Kevin Fay said the news had shocked and numbed the entire parish.
He described Jamie as a happy, pleasant and good-natured teenager and expressed his sympathies to her family.
The teenager had been missing for almost a week when her fully-clothed body was discovered with no apparent signs of physical attack.
Gardai are treating her death as suspicious.
An initial post-mortem proved inconclusive and further toxicology tests could still take a number of days.
A detailed forensic examination has been carried out at the house where the body was found, which is thought to have been vacant for up to two months.
House to house inquiries are continuing as part of an ongoing investigation.
