Indoor arena may be built at Abbotstown

The state agency responsible for developing a sports campus at Abbotstown is reportedly considering plans to construct Ireland’s biggest indoor arena at the west Dublin site.

Reports this morning said the planned arena, which would be twice as big as the Odyssey centre in Belfast, was one of a number of proposals being considered by Campus and Stadium Ireland Development Ltd (CSID).

CSID is currently drawing up plans for the Abbotstown site.

The Government was originally planning to build an 80,000-seater national stadium on the site, but these plans have been dropped due to the high cost involved.
