Unionists seek talks over Belfast march

A group of Orangemen, unionist councillors and loyalist community workers has requested talks with nationalist residents in Belfast in an effort to reverse restrictions on an Orange Order parade this weekend.

The Parades Commission has re-routed the Whiterock march away from the nationalist Springfield Road due to breaches of guidelines at last year’s parade and the Orange Order’s refusal to speak to local residents.

The move has infuriated Orangemen, unionists and loyalists, who have now requested talks with nationalists in an effort to overturn the Parades Commission’s ruling.

The nationalists are meeting this morning to decide their response.
