The North Eastern Health Board’s report into the death of a nine-year-old girl following an appendix operation at Cavan General Hospital is due to be published later today.

Frances Sheridan, from Cootehill, died around three weeks after undergoing the operation last January.

She had returned to the hospital complaining of stomach pains, but was sent home and died a few hours later.

Reports this morning said the NEHB was set to criticised the treatment of the nine-year-old and the failure to properly diagnose her condition when she attended hospital in the hours before her death.
