EU agrees new fisheries deal
EU Marine Ministers have agreed a new fish-protection deal which will include a cap on entry into the new Irish Box.
The new deal includes an examination of the possible introduction of financial or other incentives to encourage fishermen to move towards environmentally friendly methods.
A review of all existing conservation methods will also take place over the next two years.
Minister for the Marine Dermot Ahern has said the agreement should eliminate the waste of almost 20 million tonnes of fish each year.
