Residents of Clondalkin in south-west Dublin are turning out today to save an 8th century round tower in their village, which they say is the oldest and the best preserved in the country.

A colourful rally will take place in Clondalkin village protesting the development of apartments and a pub on the tower's site which is only two fifths of an acre in area.
