Govt to consider alcohol advertising ban
A recommendation to outlaw alcohol advertising in sport is to be put to the Government next week by an Oireachtas sub-committee.
The ban is being proposed in an attempt to eliminate high levels of alcohol abuse among teenagers, but could have serious implications for sponsorship of the GAA, rugby and other sports.
The Joint Committee on Health and Children will also urge the Government to seek an EU Directive to sever link between the drinks industry and sport.
The proposal is one of ten key recommendations put forward by the Committee in its Alcohol Misuse by Young People report.
