A British nutritionist has claimed that Irish children are deficient in essential "brain food".

Dr Sarah Brewer said that, with an average weekly consumption of little more than one portion of fish, Irish children do not consume enough of the vital omega-3 fatty acids that help concentration and improve brain performance.

Dr Brewer, who is giving a speech in Dublin today, said these acids can be especially helpful for children with intellectual disabilities.
