Young people urged to vote in upcoming elections

The National Youth Council has called on young people to exercise their votes in the upcoming local and European elections.

The council has also urged young voters to consider supporting young candidates.

Director, Mary Cunningham, said: "This election is particularly important. We have the opportunity to elect large numbers of new candidates given that there’s no longer the dual mandate."

Only 40% of young people traditionally vote in general elections and the figure is usually lower for European and local ballots.
