McDowell urged to publish list of garda station closures

Fine Gael TD Jim O’Keefe has called on Justice Minister Michael McDowell to publish a list of garda stations earmarked for closure ahead of this Friday’s local elections.

Mr O’Keefe said the public had a right to know which stations were being closed down before they cast their votes in the election.

His comments follow Junior Minister Tom Parlon’s assurances that no stations in his Laois-Offaly constituency would be shut.

Mr O’Keefe claimed the information about planned closures was being concealed ahead of the election.

Mr O'Keefe said: "Put the information on the table now and let the public then judge this Government."
