Reid calls for nationwide radon testing

Independent European election candidate Clifford T Reid is calling for nationwide radon testing to help prevent lung cancer.

Research published by the Radiological Institute of Ireland shows that 7% of Irish homes record levels above the Government's reference level.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive substance which is harmless in open air but becomes dangerous in an enclosed space such as a house.

Alongside tobacco, exposure to the gas is the single greatest cause of lung cancer in Ireland.

Reid, who is running in the East constituency, says every house should have its own testing kit.
