A 20-year-old man was stabbed, kicked and beaten in an attack in his home in Derry early today, police said.

The man was viciously assaulted after he returned home in the early hours of this morning after a night out. The attack is not believed to be sectarian.

The man invited a few people who were with him into his home on Corrody Road in the Waterside area of the city.

After a row broke out around 7am, the man was left with stomach injuries inflicted by another male.

Police have arrested a man. The 20-year-old’s injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police are appealing for anyone in that area of the city, who might have seen a group cross the Craigavon Bridge in the early hours of the morning, to contact them.

The group, including two men and the three women, crossed the lower deck towards the Waterside area between 4am and 5am.

About 7.30am a male and two females headed back over the upper deck to the bridge towards the city side.
