Govt to table motion establishing Curtin inquiry

The Government’s efforts to remove Circuit Court Judge Brian Curtin from the bench are due to continue today.

Justice Minister Michael McDowell is expected to table a Dáil motion establishing a seven-member committee to investigate the judge’s actions.

The motion will also lay out the terms of the reference for the investigation.

Yesterday, Mr McDowell tabled a separate motion accusing Judge Curtin of being unsuitable to remain in office due to his alleged possession of child pornography.

The judge was acquitted of the charge earlier this year. The warrant used to search his house in May 2002 was out of date.
